
John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ recommends various ways to give for our operating, building and capital support programs. The organization recognizes that some donors may wish to support us financially in ways other than by cash donations. The organization will accept other forms of contributions on an individual basis. While we prefer donations without strings attached, which tend to limit our discretion in the interest of the organization we are, nevertheless open to donor-specific or donor-defined contributions.
ENDOWMENTS
You may make a financial endowment of money or property to John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ initially $50,000 with at lest $500 increments at any time if you so choose.
You can stipulate that it be invested, and the principal remain intact in perpetuity or for a defined time period. John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ may tap any earnings at the discretion of its board of directors.
John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ will work closely with you and your financial advisors to determine the best way to structure the agreement so you receive the utmost benefit from your philanthropic giving.
• Naming Rights
You may choose to request naming rights to certain rooms, hallways or other space of the building, subject to agreement of the board of directors.
We are willing to explore opportunities with you and your advisors that will allow you to combine your philanthropic giving with your financial needs and tax-planning strategies. Through creative giving you can secure your own financial future.
The potential benefits to you may be (a) receive a current income tax deduction, (b) avoid long-term capital gain tax, (c) increase income and effective rate of return and (d) reduce estate and gift taxes.
You may give any type of asset that you irrevocably donate to a charitable organization such as John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ resulting in a current income tax deduction, but there may be other tax benefits from your contribution.
If you contribute appreciated securities that you have held more than one year, you have the added benefit of avoiding tax on the gain.
You can give John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ tangible personal property (like an art object, prized collection or antique) and take a deduction for its full fair market value if the gift is used for our exempt function.
These are but two of the types of assets you can donate outright to us today. Using assets other than cash allows you more flexibility when planning your gift, and there are even more potential benefits if you plan your gift creatively.
• Cash Gift
A Cash gift by check is one of the most common and easiest methods for making an outright charitable contribution. If you itemize income tax deductions on your tax return, the first tangible benefit of making a gift by cash or check is the tax deduction for the full value of your gift.
The annual limitation on the use of charitable deductions claimed for gifts to public charitable organizations is 50 percent of your adjusted gross income for cash gifts. Any unused deduction can be carried over and used for up to five additional years, giving you six full years to use the deduction. One of the simplest ways to make a gift to John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ is through your will. Bequests can be made in the form of a specific gift of cash or property, or as a percentage of an estate. Your bequest might fall into one of the following categories:
Specific Bequest: You can name John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ as a direct beneficiary of a specific amount of money or a specific percentage of your estate.
Sample bequest language: "I give, devise and bequeath to John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™, the sum of $____ (or ____ percent of my estate or the property described herein) for its general purposes."
