Uniondale Neighborhood Center, Inc., was founded in 1986 and incorporated on August 26, 1988. The corporation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization located at 800 and 806 Jerusalem Avenue in Uniondale.
The organization has since re-branded itself and is operated under its dba authority as John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™. The name owes its existence to a decision made in 1990 to honor a local parish priest, Monsignor John J. Byrne for his civic contributions to Uniondale. Our initial property acquisition was dedicated in his honor.
John J. Byrne Community Center | UNIONDALE™ (JJBCC) is the singular non-profit agency in Uniondale devoted to providing physical accommodations from which other service agencies may serve the community through a diverse range of programs; thus, enhancing the lives of all residents.
We currently operate out of two residential buildings at 800 and 806 Jerusalem Avenue. Our future expansion plans include the construction of an intergenerational, multicultural, full-service community center as part of the planned mixed-use development at A. Holly Patterson properties, the "Senior Village at Patterson" campus.
In that setting, the community center will be a natural fit to accomplish one of its goals of fostering interaction among various age groups - some studies have found that intergenerational interaction may promote health and educational benefits among different age groups.
Because we can provide the support services, non-profit agencies can focus exclusively on their core missions without the distraction that goes with maintaining their own facility. As a result, the agencies are far more effective at their missions than they would have been.
Our current roster of participating agencies includes:
